At SkillsBase, Innovation is at the core of what we do, from creating communication, training and compliance tools to producing bespoke software products.

2018


Mark Horgan founded SkillsBase in 2018 with the goal of engaging businesses to enhance their communication, engagement and learning amongst their various stakeholders to boost compliance in the workplace.

SkillsBase was challenged to create a mobile-first installation training app for one of the biggest telecom components manufacturers in Europe. The end-user of their products are spread throughout the world, making it difficult to reach all of them through traditional face-to-face interaction, and they wanted to ensure that products were being used right the first time.

2019


The success of the initial app solution resulted in SkillsBase being approached by the largest UK-based telecoms operator, Openreach, to solve an issue with reskilling their engineers without pulling them from the field and losing productivity. 

2020


As with all businesses, timing is everything, and when remote reskilling became the new norm in 2020, our training app grew legs of its own. It facilitated engineers to achieve their accreditations remotely and improved Openreach’s productivity at a time when there was uncertainty.

2021


As the app’s adoption rate grew, we discovered that engineers were waiting longer than anticipated for their accreditations to be signed off. This led to us building our AI Visual Analysis tool, the Virtual Buddy, using good and bad photos of installations to give instant feedback on their work quality, saving time on revisit costs and improving consumer satisfaction before completing the job.

2022


With the experience gained from working with these enterprise companies, we felt that the technology could be leveraged in other industries to help with their communication and training needs. 

One of the first organisations outside of the telecoms industry to use the app was Munster Rugby, one of Europe’s leading rugby clubs. The app is used by their development teams to communicate with their large player base and deploy training content. This was followed by developing solutions for various other industries, including Educators, Content Creators and Enterprise Training Providers.
